couple recent rulings by the umpire overseeing the now 3-year-old suit

brought by the agency of Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart [WMT] and other retailers

against Purchase, N.Y.-based MasterCard and San Francisco-based Visa

brought the case into the spotlight again.

As the case accelerates, it heightens the urgency on the
associations from federal regulators who are questioning the legality

of the associations' use
